Actual Knitting Content

Not sure why it has taken this long....

I've knit about 5 or 6 socks all of which have been frogged. Here's the first one I liked AND then knit one to match:

I was pleasantly surprised how matchy-matchy they are especially since I don't think I particularly tried to start at the same spot in the color repeat.
Pattern: Twinkle Toes by Cookie A as seen on Knitty Gritty
Yarn: Lavendar Sachet -- Sweet Feet Sock Yarn from Hill Country Yarns purchased from Discount Yarn Sale. As you can see I still have a goodly amount of yarn leftover.
Needles: Size 2 Crystal Palace Bamboo Double Points (I know, huge for socks)
Notes: I had to add a couple stitches between the "front" and "back" as they were too small otherwise. They are still a tad bit snug taking them on and off. Aside from the small amount of pooling from the instep increases, the yarn is lovely.

For my next project, I cast on for Ribby Cardi because I bought the yarn off Destash before it stopped existing (i.e. more than 6 months ago). I like it so far.

I believe I have enough yarn to make it a solid color, if not I'll probably make the contrast sleeves in a brown shade. The picture is too red, it's much more a deep maroon in real life.

New old finished object

IMG_0291.JPG

Pattern: Shrug from Debbie Bliss's Cathay pattern book c 2005
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cathay in Peony 10
Size: ?
Started: Approx April '06. I know this because I checked my order history on Yarnmarket. (Yeesh, we won't talk about how much full price yarn and a pattern book costs.)
Finished: Hmmm....some time after that, but quite a while ago. Completely finished 3/22/08
Mods: none. I made it as patterned right down to the color.

Notes:
This was the first sweater that I knit. Does a shrug count? I was a pretty new knitter at the time. I learned some basics of sweater making and seaming. All in all, it turned out pretty well. However, unlike the cover picture mine didn't just lay nicely over my boobs. I wore it once or twice, but didn't like tugging on it. My intension was to find a sweater pin or hook and eye to hold it closed, but never got around to it. I so happened to come across said hook and eye this evening, and I promptly sewed it on.
There is some wonkiness about it that doesn't make me absolutely love the sweater

  • The left slanting decreases are funny
  • I didn't know how to hid the short row wraps (but I had to learn how to even do short rows)
  • The angle at which I picked up stitches along the front "corners" for the collar/edging is too acute
Alas, it was my first sweater. Now that it has a hook and eye I like it enough to wear it proudly.

If I didn't have two other sweaters on the needles (one almost certainly will be frogged), I would consider casting on for some of the other cardigans in the book right now.

Great minds

I had the same idea as the Yarn Harlot!

Two nights ago I started looking for a new knitting project as my current project is coming to an end. I looked through my Ravelry queue & favorites, but wasn't too excited about anything. Then I started looking though the stashed patterns on my computer, and found the February Lady sweater. It was perfect for what I was thinking now. And I could make it in something other than wool for a spring/summer weight. I spent the next day finding and ordering yarn.

Today I was catching up on the blog-o-sphere and found that Stephanie Pearl-McPhee just finished her February Lady sweater!

A new hat in May -- Habitat

I never posted about the first version of this hat. I finished the first hat before the new year. Ben liked it very much, and I was pleased.

Then in March Ben has his coat stolen, and the hat was in the pocket (along with his wallet). We recovered from the annoyance of having his wallet stolen, and survived his winter coat being gone. But he would look at me with sad eyes and say "I wish I had a hat". What knitter doesn't LOVE requests for new knit items?

So despite the fact that it was now May and no longer hat season, it was a good project especially for my travels. I decided I could do no better than replace the hat that was stolen with an exact replica.
